Hans Buurman, CTO and Co-Founder

In over 30 years, Hans has played many roles in research and development of medical devices and applications, mainly around imaging. He has switched multiple times between product research and development, test and release, realizing that he is truly committed to making sure that great ideas make it to the end user. He has spent many years as a technical lead and in staff roles, where he learned the pleasure of creating an environment where people thrive. 

Out of that time, 25 years Hans spent in Philips, working as a Senior Research Scientist and Architect. He developed applications, later applied in a clinical study together with two academic partners, eventually evolving into the Philips’ tumour board solution. Project architect for an MRI software release, ~100 engineers in Best, Cleveland, Bangalore. Led the multidisciplinary team that defined ExamCards, which revolutionized the way MRI is planned and executed; Built and evaluated prototypes for multi-modality (CT, MR, X-ray and endoscope) image analysis, computer assisted surgery, and surgical navigation.

Later, Serving as Head of Development at the Dutch Cancer Registry (IKNL), spearheaded the architecture and the digital transformation of IKNL.

Hans is a certified Scrum Master, and introduced Scrum in a multi-site team (Eindhoven, Cambridge (MA), Bangalore). Built prototypes, preparing deployment at multiple sites with external partners. Established links to the NL and US markets and key customers. Supervising Ph.D. students in radiology analytics, process mining, visualisation. Various papers, patents.

Provided consulting and ensured alignment of research to stakeholders in multiple products,  Supervised re-use of research algorithms in products. Integrated Philips workstations to build a research database and set direction for product image analysis research. 

Hans has a PhD (Applied Physics) from the TU Delft.
